ANGLING ON THE RIVER BLACKWATER

Situated beside 1/2 mile of private salmon and trout fishing on the River Blackwater (otherwise known as the Munster Blackwater) which is renowned for its game and course fishing, The Salmon season is open from the 1st February to 30th September. There is no closed season on course fishing. Some bait and rods are available for hire, a fee applies per rod per day, and a fishing licence is required which can be obtained locally or organised for you in advance of your arrival.
Lake fishing is also available locally, the lakes are stocked with rainbow and brown trout.

HORSE RACING

Races are held at Cork Racecourse, Mallow throughout the year, see www.corkracecourse.ie  for fixtures.

SHOOTING

Shooting parties are organised locally, a days shoot incorporates clay pigeon and live bird shooting.


GOLF

There are an abundance of fine gold courses in the area.18 hole golf courses include..

CYCLING
Located in the heart of the Blackwater Valley, ideal as a base for circular routes in the surrounding countryside or as an overnight location as part of a cycling tour.

WALKING
For the more determined walker, Ashfield is located in the heart of 'The Blackwater Way' ( which incorporates 'The Avondhu Way' and 'The Duhallow Way') which starts in Clogheen, County Tipperary and ends at Killarney ,County Kerry, the longest part of this walk is the section between Nad and Millstreet, a distance of 19 miles. Ashfield is 7 Miles from Nad.
For the more casual walker, there are wonderful trails locally which can incorporate forest walks, parklands, historic sites and monuments and centuries old houses.

FESTIVALS/CONCERTS/SPECIAL EVENTS

Throughout the year one is spoilt for choice, whether interested in the arts, cultute or light entertainment.

The Green Glens Arena, Millstreet (the location of the annual Millstreet International Horse Show and regularly the venue of concerts and special events)

In addition to the above, there are a choice of cinemas. There are pubs that provide live music on given evenings for your entertainment. There is road bowling on Sunday afternoons (weather permitting) and open air platform dancing on Sunday evenings. The choices are endless.....
 
DINING OUT

In addition to the excellent variety of restaurants and pubs providing food in the local towns of Mallow and Kanturk, there are some choice Country House Hotels in the area--some featured in the main International Good Food Guides.
